The Serra Verde Express train from Curitiba to Morretes (on weekends to Paranagua) is a beautiful ride through the Mata Atlantica - or Atlantic Rainforest. This is one example of many historic train lines that have been reopening all over Brazil. At only about $30 one way, it is money well spent. On Sundays there is also a luxury train along the same route all the way to Paranagua. On 2nd November 1992 I spent 2hours on the footplate of "The Flying Scotsman" 4472 at Tysley, birmingham. It was a driving experience which cost £95, money well spent. There were three of us on the footplate with a trained driver taking it in turns to drive. The driver was a staunch GWR man and said that the "Scotsman" should be cut up for razor blades.
