Nanaimo's Flag Flies in Afghanistan

The city of Nanaimo flag is flying in Afghanistan as part of a flag project to show support for our troops and encourage them in their efforts. The flag arrived in Afghanistan as part of "Operation Nanaimo Gram" which included ten books of hand-written greetings to the troops from the people of Nanaimo. The flag was raised in Camp Nathan Smith where the Kandahar reconstruction team is based. The man raising the flag was Nanaimo's Brian Bishop. Two flags were presented to the city a few weeks ago, one of them was autographed by mayor and council. Both flags were then handed back and taken to Afghanistan to be raised.
