the first portion of the slide show I made for the 16th Annual Olympia Experimental Music Festival (film night). June 13, 2010 at the Capitol Theater. Obviously the auto focus on the video camera doesn't agree with the slide too much in the beginning. Each of the slides was made by hand mainly with the use of bleach. It's all manipulated, undeveloped film. So all the colors you see come from the emulsion itself. I made over 1000 (yes, that's one thousand) slides but used only about 140 of them split between 4 Kodak Ektagraphic III slide projectors being controlled by 2 different dissolve units; an Entre' 7620 (which I'm not a big fan of) and Kodak Ektagraphic Programmable Dissolve Model 2. The sequences are recorded onto a cassette, not unlike a tape drive for a Commodore 64 (remember those?). The Music: Piece #1 - Recorded 2000. Oberheim Matrix 1000. Many many cellos. All of those I performed and recorded and mixed myself. The solo cello bit isn't me. I'll send a kazoo to the first person who can guess which recording I manipulated. Piece #2 - Recorded 2006 by Jeffery Johnson (no relation). Written and performed by Derek M Johnson. Solo acoustic/electric cello. Yep, that's right. It's one track of one straight performance. No overdubs or fancy studio trickery. I plan to revise this slide show after replacing the Entre' dissolve unit as well as tightening up the arrangement of the slides. Thank you for taking the time to watch.
